Major Craig A. Knickerbocker
About the Commander
Maj Craig Knickerbocker, a third generation Civil Air Patrol (CAP) member, joined the Illinois Wing of Civil Air Patrol in 2003. He has held numerous command and staff positions over fifteen years with two squadrons, has previously served as the commander of Woodfield Composite Squadron the Director of Professional Development and also, currently, the Director of Recruiting and Retention at Illinois Wing.
As a private pilot Maj Knickerbocker joined CAP with a passion for aviation and a desire to participate in emergency services missions and as his first duty position became the squadron’s primary Emergency Services Officer in 2005. As a new Emergency Services Officer Major Knickerbocker actively participated in preparation activities with the onset of Hurricane Katrina after which he continued on with personal training in emergency services, qualifying as a Mission Scanner, Mission Staff Assistant, Urban Direction Finding Team Member, and Ground Team Member.
Maj Knickerbocker holds Emergency Services qualifications in aircrew, mission base staff, and serves as a logistic section chief. He has served multiple director and instructor positions for classes in Squadron Leadership (SLS), Corporate Learning (CLC), Unit Commander (UCC), and Emergency Services. Additionally he holds ratings in 5 specialty tracks to include senior ratings in Aerospace, Information Technology, and Professional Development and has received several awards and over the years to include 3 Commanders Commendations, and the Grover C. Loening Award.
Professionally Maj Knickerbocker is a business owner and former adjunct professor for Prescott College of Arizona.
